Towards sustainable recovery
by Kasper Pyndt
“We, the students at KABK The Royal Academy of Art, were given access to the Dutch memorandum of 2014 before its official release. The Ministry of Finance asked us to create a visualisation that reflected on the financial data that could be found in the vast amount of documents.
“Towards Sustainable Recovery” is an ambiguous board game that proposes a luck-based economic reality in which you, as a player, have to navigate your way through and towards economic success. Simultaneously, the game reflects on bureaucratic clichés and overly complicated governmental documents through a gameplay that asks a lot of the player.
The goal of the game is to survive the crisis; As the game progresses you will be presented for a large number of rules that take basis in (mostly negative) economic occurances. Furthermore, a cool head is needed as you have to keep track of your own as well as your opponent’s movement on the board to trace your route back in the end. To conclude – “Towards Sustainable Recovery” is the accountant’s dream game.
The project was one of 8 selected projects to be exhibited at Haagse Kunstkring.”
