“The Sala Beckett / Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia is a space for theatrical creation and experimentation which endeavours especially to promote contemporary drama and offer a meeting point for playwrights, stage directors and the general public.
A range of activities take place at the Sala Beckett and its Obrador, from teaching and experimentation programmes with varying degrees of specialisation, through regular show production and programming, to international courses, workshops and meetings, the publication of drama and theoretical texts, and the translation and specific promotion of authors, shows and plays, with a special emphasis on new forms of dramatic writing.
Since 2011 Sala Beckett / Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia has existed as a Foundation of a private nature, officially recognised by the Catalan Government, with a Board of Trustees, formed by 12 playwrights, that supervises its compliance with the objectives expressed in the founding statutes and that guarantees the transparency and democratic functioning of the organisation.”
“The new building will maintain the spatial characteristics of the original building and will grow on top of it to give space to the new programme.
With this transformation of the existing building, old and new will work at the same time: it will be a place where one will find signs of previous occupations, but the whole building will be actualized for the new use.
The result is not a piling up of programme but something else: in its interior an enormous vestibule connecting the three levels, and outside, a big new roof that transforms the old cooperative building into a big house: The New House for the Dramaturges.”
