“We’d been looking at work by artist Carol Bove that often employed a precise geometric 3D frame to house a hanging organic object of some sort, like a piece of driftwood suspended in a brass rectangle. We’d been thinking about how a chair might act as a choreographer… what if a chair activated your awareness of gravity? What if sitting, which is in essence a collaboration with gravity and trust, was thought of as language?

The chairs lived at Phillips de Pury for about two years and now reside at Patrick Parrish Gallery in NYC.”
